Privacy Policy
Tex Mex Table collects very little about you, and this page says exactly what, why, and for how long.
Effective October 27, 2026
1. Who we are
This policy covers the website at texmextable.com ("Tex Mex Table", "we", "us"). It explains what personal data we collect when you read the site, subscribe to the newsletter, or send us a message, and what we do with it. Questions about anything here go to hello@texmextable.com.
2. What we collect, and why
Reading the site
You can read every page without an account and without giving us anything. Our web server keeps standard technical logs (the address of the page requested, the time, your browser type, and an IP address) for a short period so we can keep the site running and spot abuse.
Analytics
We measure traffic with Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool. It does not use cookies, does not store your IP address, and does not build a profile of you. We see page views, referring sites, and approximate country and device type, in aggregate.
We also use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read and where readers come from. It sets first-party cookies (_ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) that let it recognise a returning browser, for up to two years. Google receives your IP address to work out your approximate location; it does not store it. We have turned off Google signals and advertising features, so this data is not used to show you ads. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google Analytics sets no cookies unless you accept them in the cookie banner; if you decline or ignore the banner, it sends only cookieless signals without an identifier for your browser.
The newsletter and free downloads
When you enter your email address for the newsletter or a free download, we store that address together with the date, the page you signed up on, and whether you confirmed the subscription. We send a confirmation email first and only add you once you click the link in it (double opt-in). Every email we send has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
Contact messages
When you use the contact form or email us, we keep your name, email address, and message so we can reply and so we can look back at the conversation later. We do not add contact form senders to the newsletter.
3. Cookies
Tex Mex Table sets no advertising cookies. The only analytics cookies are the Google Analytics ones described above. The site also stores a few small preferences in your browser (for example your cookie choice); they stay on your device and are never sent to us. Third-party embeds, where a page includes one, may set their own cookies under their own policies.
(readers in Europe see the banner again; your new choice applies straight away).
4. Affiliate links
Some links on Tex Mex Table are affiliate links, including links to Amazon. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. The retailer, not us, handles your order and your payment details; we never see them. Amazon and other retailers may use cookies to attribute the sale, which they describe in their own privacy policies.
5. Who else sees your data
We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for advertising. The only third parties that process data on our behalf are the services that run the site:
- the hosting provider that serves the pages and keeps the server logs;
- the content system where subscriptions and contact messages are stored;
- the email delivery service that sends the confirmation and newsletter emails;
- Umami, for the anonymous analytics described above;
- Google, which runs Google Analytics and stores a copy of the analytics events in our Google Cloud account.
We may also disclose data if the law requires it or to protect the site and its readers from abuse.
6. How long we keep it
- Server logs: a few weeks, then deleted.
- Google Analytics events: 14 months in Google Analytics. The copy in our Google Cloud account is kept for long-term reporting and deleted on request where it can be tied to you.
- Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete you. Unconfirmed signups are deleted after 30 days.
- Contact messages: as long as needed to deal with them, and no longer than two years.
7. Your rights
Wherever you are, you can ask us what data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and withdraw consent to the newsletter at any time. Readers in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom have these rights under the GDPR, and readers in California have similar rights under the CCPA; we honour them for everyone. Email hello@texmextable.com and we will answer within 30 days. If you think we have handled your data badly, you can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
8. Children
Tex Mex Table is written for adults who cook. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13, and we delete it if we learn we have.
9. Links to other sites
Recipes and articles link to other websites. Their privacy practices are their own, and this policy stops at the edge of texmextable.com.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we update this page and the effective date at the top. Where a change matters to subscribers, we say so in the newsletter as well.
11. Contact
For anything about your privacy: hello@texmextable.com, or the contact form.
